Le Vanesse dell'Ortica

The B&B Le Vanesse dell'Ortica It rests on a hillock in a sunny position in the winter and in the summer is delicately shaded with a natural screen of trees and conifers within the small valley of Mount Pitoro in the green county of Camaiore in Versilia! Is a three-story typical tuscan country home made of stone. The breakfast room, the reading area and treatment centre are located on the first floor. The bedrooms are located on the second and third floor.

THE BREAKFAST HALL: To accommodate and satisfy your personal breakfast desire, you can express your choice in advance whether it be in traditional or in organic style and we shall favor you with our local products. The breakfast room is spacious and leads to our front garden. Delightful, relaxing music will accompany your breakfast.

THE OLIVE GROVE: Just behind the house, there are 70 young olive trees and a small vegetable garden. The trees give off a silvery glow which colour the local Versilia and Luchese country hillsides. The local olive oil is of excellent quality. You can try some at the oil mill just in front of our Inn! Tuscany is proud of its oil.

Located in a strategic position, 200 mt above sea level, on the provincial road that connects Versilia with Lucca (distance from Viareggio: 10 km / distance from Lucca: 15 km) situated on the versiliese hillside near the Apuan Alps which stand out just beyond Camaiore (5 km). Just in front of our country inn, a fresh gurgling brook meets with the freddana torrent, in the homonymous valley, dotted with fascinating town villages on one of the most beautiful roads leading to Lucca. The country inn is but a short walk from the town of "Pitoro" (in Versilia, Lucca and Pisa the meaning for pitoro is chick), which is located just below the homonymous Mount and a step away from the splendid Pieve a Elici (2 km), an old Parish Church, which looks upon the sea and is well known for its summer Concert Season. From here different trails for hiking and mountain bike depart and branch out through the town commune of Massarosa. Looking onward towards the picturesque Lake of Massaciuccoli with its Roman Thermae, a unique stage for summer theatre and concerts. Across the lake near the horizon stands Torre del Lago Puccini with its open theatre right on the lake front which hosts the Puccini Festival and all the well known Operas of the Maestro. The hamlet of Montemagno, Camaiore’s balcony, arena of the splendid Apuan Alps, is but perfect for those who love trekking, mountain climbing and nature in general (please refer to the Sport pages). At 2 km from the enchanting village town of Gualdo, known in recent years for its revival as "Pinocchio’s Town" which takes place in late summer. At a brief distance lies Gombitelli, another village town known for its cold cuts and local gastronomy.

THE SEA: Viareggio is but a step away with its endless beaches running for kilometers and kilometers; the Macchia Lucchese, a regional park with its magnificent umbrella pine trees; the shipyard and port area with spectacular sailing boats and yachts; the throbbing life along the Sea-Prominade (Passeggiata) with all the beautiful fashion shops, boutiques, cafes; the open market area, a permanent retail selling district with a variety of merchandise and products

MARBLE: Enchanting towns for the quarrying, working and sculpturing of marble: Pietrasanta (7 km), Seravezza and Stazzema (12 km), Carrara (20 km).

How to reach the bed and breakfast
BY CAR: drive along the highway A12 Genova-Rosignano or along the highway A11 Firenze-Mare;follow through to Viareggio-Genova then drive along the connecting highway between A11 & A12 taking the first exit MASSAROSA; at the junction turn right in direction VIAREGGIO along the Sarzanese Valdera road and drive along for about 3 km down to the next major turnoff in Montramito, heading strait along the curve in direction Pietrasanta. Caution, just around the corner from RISTORANTE Pizzeria turn right in direction STIAVA. Follow road signs to PITORO-GUALDO-LUCCA, driving past the soccer-foot ball field in Stiava; drive up the hill untill you reach and pass the little hamlet of Pitoro continuing strait (inland, direction Lucca); pay attention to the next blue road sign to GUALDO but instead drive strait through SLOWING DOWN: please look for the oil-mill FRANTOIO and annexed FALEGNAMERIA to your right while driving slowly along the rather sharp curve to the left; COME TO A COMPLETE STOP HERE and look for a small road temple with a Madonna to your left at the beginning of a narrow lane uphill where you'll see our sign; procede for 20-30 mt untill you see our big green gate and mail box: please ring the doorbell and wellcome at the VANESSE DELL'ORTICA!

BY AIRPLANE / TRAIN from PISA/VIAREGGIO: There is a regular train or bus connection from Pisa Airport to Pisa Central Station; from there continue on to Viareggio and Massarosa-Bozzano; you may get on a bus or taxi from there or arrange a pick-up with us.

Included in the price:  Breakfast, change of towels three times weekly, weekly change of bed linen, ample parking lot, touristic information brochures, MOUNTAIN-BIKE HIRE, a warm welcome with cake tea and coffee!

Breakfast will be served from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.and includes a choice of either: 1) croissant, home-made fruit muffin or cake along with fresh yogurt and fruit. 2) Cereal or muesli with toast, jelly and fruit. Upon request, our guests can choose a combination of both or request your favourite while booking; we will do our best to satisfy you.

On request: BIKES: Our 4 mountain-bikes are available for discovering the country-side surrounding Vanesse dell'Ortica.

THERAPIES: Besides the peacefulness of our country inn, we offer gentle, holistic healthcare treatments such as: Prana Therapy, Reiki, Acquarian Methodologies and Bioenergetics. In addition we hold training periods of Vibrational Techniques, Prana Therapy and Bioenergetics.

To be paid on the spot: Upon arrival, we request a safety deposit of 50,00 Euro per room which will be refunded upon departure or deducted from total charge if no damage is made in any way to objects or furnishings in or outside the premises of our B&B

How to book: If you wish to make a reservation, please note that we need confirmation of your booking via e-mail/fax (with your address, telephone numbers and arrival time)and a deposit according to the INFORMATION SENT AT THE MOMENT YOU CONFIRM; we will provide you in turn with a written confirmation as soon as we receive your letter of booking and deposit of one third total charge through a Postal money order within 2 weeks from your reservation. Credit cards are not accepted, there are banks at just a few kilometers.No smoking in bedrooms ; outdoors there is ample space, thank you.We are sorry but no animals allowed.

A beautiful wrought iron hand painted head board heads the double bed plus there is an extra luxury-style single bed with warm colours. The bedroom is also furnished with side tables and table lamps, antique wardrobe and an old-fashioned toletta with mirror. There are pictures decorating the sky-blue walls of the room. Just outside the bedroom there is a large private bathroom including bathtub and massage shower.

THE WILDBERRIES: This large-size bedroom is located on the second floor and is perfect for 2 or 3 guests. It looks out onto our front yard. A beautiful wrought iron hand painted head board heads the double bed plus there is an extra luxury-style single bed with warm colours. The bedroom is also furnished with side tables and table lamps, antique wardrobe and an old-fashioned toletta with mirror. There are pictures decorating the delicate mauve green walls of the room. Just outside the bedroom there is a large private bathroom at times shared with another room on the same floor. It looks out onto our olive grove.

THE CHERRIES: This middle-size bedroom is located on the second floor and is a real cosy nest, perfect for 2 companions sharing a room. The roof shows its chestnut and terracotta-tile typical tuscan structure. Beautiful linen hand painted head board head the 2 single beds. The bedroom is also furnished with side tables and table lamps, antique wardrobe and an old-fashioned toletta with mirror. There are pictures decorating the delicate salmon color walls of the room. Just outside the bedroom there is a large private bathroom at times shared with another room on the same floor. It looks out onto our olive grove.
